Not too long ago, I got
a phone call from a gentleman that was looking for an
appraisal. He said he had called a local jeweler to ask
who should he see for a diamond appraisal. He said their
response was . . . "In their opinion, there is no
one in the Knoxville area that can appraise diamonds".
Later, a sales rep of a New York designer house was told
by that same firm, they did not want to see his face in
their store again because they were selling to us (Mackley & Company).
Dear Future . . . You see, the local jewelry company feels
they have been snubbed by replacement appraisals instead of retail appraisals. In
reality, an item is replaced by insurance companies at
the lowest level of making one whole. An appraiser's job
is to reflect the marketplace vs pushing one particular
retail jeweler. Also, apparently the local jeweler did
not have the exclusiveness from this manufacturing jeweler
they thought they had. The sales rep and the jeweler should
have had a better understanding. The sales rep says that the product selected by each firm was different. When do we get away from
acting childish? What's wrong with face to face communication?
The problem is jewelers are people and there are all types
of people, thus all types of jewelers. A part of life.
Badmouthing is not a part of good ethical standards.
